Davidson College Fall Events

πŸ“… Aug 24 – Nov 2026 | Davidson, NC

Fall semester at Davidson College begins Aug 24, and the campus stays busy right through the season. Family and Orientation Weekend brings new students and their families to campus Oct 16–18, 2026. That’s the same weekend as Carolina BalloonFest, so we always recommend booking early if you’re visiting for both. Students get a short breather during Fall Break on Sep 21–22. In our opinion, this is a great time for a visit if you’d rather skip the crowds and enjoy a quieter walk around campus.

We cannot forget our mighty Wildcats! Fall sports pick up the pace, with home games drawing alumni and families back to campus all season. We keep a stack of free tickets to home football games at the front desk. Since they are available on a first-come, first-served basis, it’s worth asking when you check in (or even when you book your stay). Take a look at our DC guide to fall sports for the schedule and what to expect at a game, or check out our football special for details on the front desk tickets.

Fall color starts turning around the same time, so check our guide to fall foliage near Davidson College if you want to time your visit around peak leaves.

The Rural Hill Amazing Corn Maze is one of our go-to picks for a fall afternoon. It’s an easy half-day trip from Davidson, and we always tell guests to go early before the gravel lot fills up.

Carolina Renaissance Festival

πŸ“… Weekends | Oct 3 – Nov 22, 2026 | Huntersville, NC (~10–12 miles away)

Step into a different century at the Carolina Renaissance Festival. Knights joust on horseback, artisans sell handmade wares in the marketplace, and the smell of turkey legs and kettle corn fills the air. We always point guests toward the morning jousting show, since it draws a smaller crowd than the afternoon rounds. Advance tickets run $36 for adults and $22 for children, and parking is free.

Carowinds trades its summer lineup for a daytime family event each fall. Tricks and Treats brings costume-friendly trick-or-treating, family-style rides, and seasonal shows, all included with regular park admission. We hear from guests traveling with younger kids that this is an easier fit than a full Halloween crowd, since nothing here is meant to be scary.

North Carolina barbecue has its own dedicated weekend in Lexington, and we tell guests to make the drive at least once. Now in its 42nd year, the festival pairs plates of chopped pork with BMX stunt shows, antique cars, and live concerts. Plan to arrive hungry.
