As cooler weather sweeps across the country, trees begin to change color to those brilliant hues of fiery red, orange, yellow, and even purple. The best time to view fall foliage near Davidson College and the area is mid to late October, although some of the higher elevations will start their transformation even earlier. There are some fantastic places to take in the colorful displays near Davidson. Whether you want to bike around the stunning shores of Lake Norman or enjoy a stroll through the Davidson College campus, you’ll find that a fall getaway here is second to none! Lake Norman
If you only have time to visit one of our fantastic North Carolina fall foliage viewing spots, it should be Lake Norman. Our massive lake is home to miles of gorgeous coastline you can access in Lake Norman State Park. The foliage is always doubly impressive when you see the reflection in the water. Here you can bike, hike, or go for a leisurely walk under an array of fall colors. When the sun is shining and the weather is still warm, you can get out on the water with a rented kayak or try your luck at fishing. There are also several fantastic places to dine on the lake, so you can soak in magnificent views of the water and foliage while savoring delectable cuisine.
Lake Davidson Nature Preserve
If you don’t want to drive further than five minutes from our Inn, the Lake Davidson Nature Preserve is a fantastic place to take in the fall foliage in North Carolina. This small lakefront park is full of towering trees and quiet spots to relax during the fall season. The reflection of the trees in the water is always worth a few pictures. It is a small gem for a quick run or bike ride.
Roosevelt Wilson Park
Charming Roosevelt Wilson Park is the perfect spot near Davidson for a casual fall stroll. It’s less than a 15-minute walk from our Inn and is home to a pond and acres of quiet tree-shrouded land. Keep an eye out for a variety of beautiful bird species while leaf-peeping. It’s an excellent spot for a romantic picnic, too! On Saturdays through October, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards are available for rent on Saturdays through October.
Davidson College
The Davidson College campus is one of the best places to view fall foliage in North Carolina during peak leaf season. Wander along the tree-shrouded pathways weaving through the many beautiful buildings during a crisp afternoon. Take a deep breath and smell that familiar fall odor of fallen leaves from mature trees. The campus is right across the street from our Inn, so it’s easy to access for guests. Fall also means that the sound of a Wildcat football game can be heard on select weekends.
Painted Sky Ranch
If you want to give your feet a rest and enjoy a unique adventure in North Carolina, head over to Painted Sky Ranch in Mooresville. Sign up for private or group lessons, take a ride through scenic trails, and kids can even hop on a pony for a fun experience! It’s one of the best ways to experience fall foliage in North Carolina. Downtown Davidson,

Latta Nature Preserve
If you are looking for one location with running trails, water sports, fishing, educational nature programs, and a raptor center, then the Latta Nature Preserve is one-stop shopping. This former plantation has 1400 acres of forests, trails, and continuous water views. Keep your eyes open; you may see bald eagles, wild turkeys, red foxes, deer, herons, and more!
