Business travel doesn’t need to feel like a checklist of hotel lobbies, fast food, and missed sleep. We’ve had the pleasure of hosting professionals who return again and again, and they’ve taught us something each time. Little things make a big difference when you’re away from home.
Here are our best business travel tips, inspired by guests who know how to blend productivity and comfort. If you’re heading to Davidson soon, these ideas might turn your trip into a genuine reset.
Choose a Stay That Works as Hard as You Do
Location matters. Our guests love being able to walk to meetings, restaurants, and the Davidson College campus. You won’t need to budget time for traffic or hunt for parking. A quiet room and a few extra minutes of sleep can change your whole day.
Our Executive Suites include desks, fast Wi-Fi, and plenty of outlets. The rooms are calm and clean, ready for a day of calls or quiet focus. If you’re working remotely or traveling for meetings, our inn gives you the best of both.
This is one of the most charming places I’ve stayed. The staff was truly a delight, the rooms are spacious and well appointed, and the beds are cozy. The property is located in the heart of Davidson right by the college. I strongly recommend booking a stay here! It felt like staying with a close friend. (Michael Y | Google)
Move Your Body to Clear Your Mind
Sitting all day doesn’t just wear you down. It dulls your focus. Davidson makes it easy to stretch your legs and recharge. Guests love jogging or cycling the Davidson Greenway. Some enjoy starting the day with a stroll through town.
Prefer a gym workout? You’ll have complimentary access to the Lake Norman YMCA. It’s just minutes away. The YMCA in Cornelius offers outdoor recreation, including tennis courts, beach volleyball, an indoor/outdoor pool, and a yoga studio. Their indoor facility offers more than 40 cardio machines and 25 strength machines.
A little movement makes a big difference in how you work and sleep.
Pack Smarter. Travel Lighter.
Most business travelers overpack. Try sticking to one carry-on bag and keeping it simple. Include layers for temperature swings, wrinkle-resistant outfits, and one pair of versatile shoes.
Our regular guests recommend these essentials:
- A reusable water bottle
- A lightweight power bank
- Packing cubes
- Travel-sized toiletries
- A compact umbrella
You can leave the extras to us. We provide everything else, including snacks, filtered water, fresh breakfast, and all the comforts of a tidy, quiet space.
Prioritize Sleep and Good Food
Sleep often gets sacrificed during work trips. Don’t let it. Our rooms are quiet, private, and equipped with WiFi. Our beds are wrapped with Comphy luxury linens with private baths stocked with Turkish bamboo towels and L’Occitane bath amenities. Guests consistently tell us how well they sleep here.
Fuel matters too. We offer a fresh, early breakfast with fruit, yogurt, granola, and coffee that actually tastes good. For dinner, we’re steps from Kindred, Flatiron, and other local favorites. Be sure to mention that you’re a guest at our Inn with our partnering eateries for a special discount. You won’t need to settle for fast food or long waits.

Work Efficiently, Then Unplug
Make your time count. Try time-blocking your day so you can finish strong and unplug early. Need a quiet corner for Zoom meetings or a last-minute printout? Just ask, we’ll take care of it.
Cloud-based tools like Google Drive, Evernote, and Expensify help you keep things organized. They also allow you to travel lighter and avoid paper clutter. Guests also love the simplicity of doing business without constant interruptions.
Explore in Small Ways
You don’t need an extra day off to enjoy where you are. A walk through town or a stop at the farmers market can give your day more rhythm. Many guests bring a book or enjoy a glass of wine in our library or lounge between meetings.
If your calendar allows, consider staying an extra night. Midweek stays are quiet and discounted. It’s a smart way to skip the Friday rush and enjoy a slower pace before heading home.
Carol was helpful from the initial booking options, to separate check in times, restaurant reservations, local recommendations, etc. The additional staff were also always helpful and cordial. Nice well positioned boutique type hotel. First time we didn’t rent a car and didn’t regret it. (Nani C | Google)
