There are plenty of reasons to plan a fall vacation to North Carolina, but one of our favorite annual autumn events is the Carolina Renaissance Festival! Step back in time as you explore this 25-acre open air village, with shows, food, shopping, and fun for all ages. Costumes are optional, but don’t hesitate to put on your favorite medieval garb (or rent a costume at the gate) and spend a day amongst kings and queens, knights and knaves, wizards and mermaids! The festival runs from the first week of October and ends just before Thanksgiving, so you have plenty of time to plan your trip to visit the Carolina Renaissance Festival in Huntersville, NC.
You can’t go to a renaissance festival without cheering on as a few brave knights battle it out, and there are plenty of Tournament Jousting shows every day for your enjoyment. One of the most unique entertainment acts at the fest are the Sea Fairies; a living mermaid act that will delight children of all ages as these enchanting sirens flip, splash, and swim. If you’re in need of a good laugh, check out comedy shows from acts like the famous Tortuga Twins, the Washing Well Wenches, and the raucous juggling trio known as the London Broil Show. Make sure you take time to watch the incredible acrobats of Barely Balanced, and stop by the Musical Box to see Pirouette the Magical Dancer take the stage. One of our favorite acts is the amazing displays put on by Sky Kings Falconry, where impressive birds of prey dive, catch, and soar at the behest of their expert trainers.
Royal Rides and Recreation
No festival would be complete without rides and games, and the Carolina Renaissance Festival has both in abundance! Take to the skies on Da Vinci’s Flying Machine, or let your inner child out to play on the World’s Largest Rocking Horse. For daring adventurers, board a sea-faring vessel and experience a Voyage to the New World. Test your skill at exciting games like Shatter the Platter, Queen Darts, Axe Throwing, or the Slider Joust. Grab a bow and enter the archery tournament, or participate in medieval law and order by slinging tomatoes in Vegetable Justice.
Feasts Fit for a King
What would a renaissance festival be without a hardy turkey leg to chow down on? Lancer’s Kitchen has you covered on Medieval meals. Head over to the Dragon Inn for sandwiches, salads, and the best mac and cheese in the kingdom. The Cappuccino Inn offers a delectable selection of coffees, teas, and all things caffeine. The Crown Pub is pouring the finest ales in the land, but there are plenty of places around the fair to grab a cold pint or a glass of wine. Crepes, pasta, steaks, and more await you at the plethora of restaurants at the festival.
Treasures Abound at the Artisan Market
The vendors at the Carolina Renaissance Festival have some incredible wares on display. From Handmade jewelry and clothing to intricate leatherworks, beautiful pottery, blown glass creations, candles, soaps, and so much more. For children, there are arts and crafts booths, incredible costumes, and toys galore! While you’re at the Artisan Market, don’t forget to check out the array of on-site services. Have your fortune told, get your hair braided, pose for a colorful caricature portrait, or take some time to relax for a soothing neck and shoulder massage.
Special Weekend Events
While every weekend at the festival is sure to be a treat, don’t miss out on the special events and deals running throughout the season. Enjoy the soothing sounds of Celtic Music Weekend, shop ‘til you drop over Pirates Christmas Weekend, dress as your favorite futuristic explorer during Time Traveler’s Weekend, or kick of the Samhain season Medieval style during Halloween Daze and Spooky Nights.
