What is Lake Norman Community Sailing and Why Do You Need to Check It Out?

There are so many fun and exciting ways to get out and explore the beautiful outdoors around Davidson, North Carolina. One of our favorite activities is spending a day on the waters of Lake Norman. Classic boat, kayak, and stand up paddle board rentals are available at several places in and around Davidson, but Lake Norman Community Sailing offers one of the most unique boating experiences in the area! Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or just learning how to sail, they have classes and cliniques to perfect your sailing techniques! What Will You Find at Lake Norman Community Sailing?

Adult Programs

Lake Norman Community Sailing offers a variety of classes and sailing options so you can build your skills to stay safe and have fun on the water. There are three different classes, each teaching a special set of skills needed to pilot their Flying Scot and Sunfish sailboats. The basic Flying Scot training consists of two days of classes, each three and a half hours. The Sunfish class last three days and features two and a half hour sessions. Once you complete your course at Lake Norman Community Sailing, you can buy a pass and take out one of the boats from their adult fleet.

Youth Programs

Adults aren’t the only ones who can have fun with Lake Norman Community Sailing! Kids can partake in one of the youth sailing programs for all levels of experience. There are three classes of sailboats available for youth sailing, each requiring a different set of technical skills to pilot the vessel. The Optimist Dinghy is an excellent choice for kids new to sailing as you can’t tip over!

Kayak and Stand Up Paddleboard Rentals

If piloting your own boat makes you a little nervous, Lake Norman Community Sailing also offers a couple of fun alternatives! Rent one of their kayaks or stand up paddleboards for some fun in the sun on the beautiful waters of Lake Norman. They have 11 kayaks and 12 SUPs so you can take out the entire when you buy a pass. It’s a great way to relax and explore the little coves and beaches around the lake. LNCS allows you to launch from the beach or the dock depending on your experience level and ability.

Rowing

Lake Norman Community Sailing even offers rowing for kids and adults in the Pass Holders Program. While there aren’t any classes available and you must know how to row before checking out one of their boats, it’s a fantastic opportunity to hit the open water if you have the experience. Check it out during your next visit to Lake Norman!
