Davidson College – Van Every/Smith Galleries
The artwork in and around Davidson College is a must-see for anyone visiting the area. Their impressive Van Every/Smith Galleries are home to rotating exhibits featuring students, teachers, and professional artists from all around the globe. They also boast an incredible permanent collection, with over 3,500 individual works for students and visitors to appreciate. The campus sculpture program extends this collection out onto the college grounds, with breathtaking outdoor works from a variety of world-renowned artists.
Wooden Stone Gallery
At Wooden Stone Gallery in downtown Davidson, NC, you’ll find a unique mix of functional handcrafted pieces from home décor to jewelry, metalworks, woodworks, and much more. Wooden Stone has featured over 600 artists from all over the country since its inception, and you’re guaranteed to find something new every time you visit. Another downtown spot you won’t want to miss is Modern History Clay Works, home to stunning ceramic pieces from artist Melissa Reddick. Her captivating sculptures are made using a unique blend of artistic mediums, and she currently has 3 distinct collections on display.
Mooresville Art Gallery
The Mooresville Art Gallery is home to an impressive display of works, with 3 separate galleries for visitors to peruse. All of their pieces are crafted by native North Carolina artists, and their gift shop offers visitors a chance to take home a unique memento of the local culture. More local works can be found at the Cornelius Arts Center’s “Home Grown” exhibit. Their yearly gallery program typically features around 80 artists, with an eclectic blend of styles and mediums that reflect the diversity of the various talents on display.
Casual Creative Art Studio and Makery
For those seeking to let their inner artist come out, the Casual Creative Art Studio and Makery is the place to go. Artists Maria Hamm and Kristen Feighery offer classes and workshops for people of all ages and skill levels, allowing even the most novice artists to walk away with their own beautiful canvases and crafts. They also book “art parties” for private groups, perfect for a girl’s weekend getaway. Studio Elie is another great choice for a fun, casual artistic experience.
