The town of Davidson began with the founding of Davidson College back in 1837. Historic downtown Davidson is a great place for a stroll. Either take a self-guided tour of the area or join the Davidson Historical Society on one of their 1-hour walking tours. Or if you’re looking for a classic cheeseburger paired with an old-fashioned milkshake, pull up a seat at The Soda Shop. The Soda Shop Davidson has been serving up meals since 1951.
Treat yourself to a little retail therapy on your weekend getaway and check out some of Davidson’s wonderful shopping. Wooden Stone Gallery on S Main Street is a great place to find local, one-of-a-kind works of art. Main Street Books offers shoppers not only books but also a selection of cards, journals, and other gifts. And a staple of shopping on Main Street since 1966 is The Village Store. The Village Store sells a wide variety of items from jewelry to home décor and more.
Mingle with the locals every Saturday through November at the Davidson Farmers Market. Located next to Town Hall, the Farmers Market is home to dozens of local vendors. Because the market has everything from local fruits and vegetables to natural beef, handmade cheese, artisan bread, and local wine, the options are endless. The market is open from 9:00 am to noon.
