This year’s Rural Hill Sheepdog Trials and Dog Festival is packed with fun activities!

From the time the gates open at 10:00 am, this fun event will feature agility trials, dock dogs, and dog sports demonstrations. While you are able to bring your dog to the trials, they will not be able to accept new entrants. Gates close at 5:00 pm both days.

Especially relevant is that this event is celebrating its 21st year. The festival is more than just dog trials and competition. There is something for every member of the family. From hay rides and crafts to cooking and living history demonstrations, you will find yourself busy the whole day! And don’t forget to bring your old pumpkins in for some Pumpkin’ Chunkin’ fun. You will have the opportunity to catapult your pumpkin as high as 40 feet into the air and watch it fall to the ground in a big splat!

Another way to enjoy the event is to come hungry. Many food vendors will be on hand with items to purchase. Fair food like funnel cakes, hot dogs, and also kettle corn and burgers will be sold. A bake sale will be on site selling locally made baked goods. Guests 21 and over can get a wristband and drink local North Carolina beer and wine. Highland Brewing and Shetland Vineyards will both be represented. Since Historic Rural Hill Inc. is a non-profit organization, all profits will return to them.

Tickets to the Rural Hill Sheepdog Trials and dog festival can be purchased online or day of at the gate. It is free for children ages 0-4, $7.50 for ages 5-12 and adults are $11.00.
