Get Excited For This Year’s Mecktoberfest

It’s back!  Mecktoberfest returns for its 8th year at The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery.  This year’s 3-day festival will take place September 23rd through the 25th.  Mecktoberfest is a fun event for the entire family, including your furry friends.  You can’t beat a fall weekend, spent outdoors, with great food, even better beer and lots of friends.  Get excited for this year’s Mecktoberfest!

The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery has been open since March of 2009.  OMB is Charlotte’s oldest brewery.  When you visit The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, you can see their state-of-the-art 60 barrel brewery, eat at the Brauhaus, or enjoy time at the Biergarten.  The Biergarten is known as the city’s most unique beer drinking location.  Surrounded by 100-year old oak trees, mature pecan trees, and hickory trees it’s a great place to drink beer in all seasons.  If you’re interested in a tour at OMB, tours are offered every Saturday and Sunday for free.

If you find yourself in the area, visit the breweries Brauhaus for lunch or dinner.  The Brauhaus is open from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm.  The menu is filled with German dishes including traditional sausages, soft pretzels, and Currywurst with Pommes.  There are American options on the menu too including pizza, burgers, and wings.  The Brauhaus has quite a few rotating brews on tap but a few of their year-round beers include the Capt Jack, Copper, and the Fat Boy Baltic Porter.

Mecktoberfest is held on The Olde Mecklenburg Breweries 8.5 acres.  The event is free to enter.  You’ll feel like you are in Germany during this seasonal fall event.  The highlight of Mecktoberfest is, of course, the seasonal Mecktoberfest beer.  The Bavarian hops and yeast from the oldest brewery in the world give this beer its unique flavor.  Marzen Amber Lager will also be on tap during the festival.  Pair your beer with German food, a hot dog or a hamburger, and you’ve got the making to a pretty perfect day.

If you love German music, you’ll get lots of it over the weekend.  The Holzhackern German Band will perform from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday and Saturday and from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday.  Other performers will include the Matt Stratford Band, Jared Allen, Banana Pancakes and West Bolz.  You’ll be able to enjoy the music of Mecktoberfest by the firepit or playing cornhole with friends.  Even dogs are welcome at this event so feel free to bring them along for the day.
